Ries History

Claude C. Ries
1917 - 1984

Claude C. Ries received two Silver Stars and a Purple Heart in World War II. Unfortunately, he also came home with a bullet in his spine and a paraplegic. Claude started the Southern California Cover Society (Chapter #32 of the AFDCS) in 1978. There were 7 members in attendance, and this small beginning soon led to its extinction. Chapter #48 began in 1984 and is still going strong! Several of our charter members knew Claude and decided to name the chapter after him and keep his memory alive. The cover below shows a sample of his cachet artwork.
